Roughly six months after the release of his debut album, Gangs Signs & Prayer, Stormzy was invited into the Radio 1 Live Lounge studio to chat with Clara Amfo and record a trio of live performances, including two album tracks—"Blinded By Your Grace Pt. 2" and "Cigarettes"—as well as a reinterpretation of 1999 garage hit "Sweet Like Chocolate".

The track was originally recorded Shanks & Bigfoot, aka producers Steven Meade and Danny Langsman. The duo had been making moves in the garage scene for a couple of years before that as Doolally, combining jazzy horns and crisp garage 2-step, before they rebranded and hit the top 10 with "Sweet Like Chocolate".
