HERITAGE: Smoke Boys Bring Out Drake And Skepta During Their Epic Headline Show (2016)

September 22, 2020

Last night, Smoke Boys took to their socials to make the bittersweet announcement that a new tape, All The Smoke, would be on the way and that it would be their last.

To celebrate their game-changing, but all too brief career, first as Section Boyz and then Smoke Boys, we wanted to look back at one of their crowning achievements, the time they brought out Skepta and Drake for a landmark moment in the history of rap and grime.

Grime was enjoying a huge boom in popularity and was finding some pretty high profile fans stateside, but this show told the world that something else was on the way. Smoke Boys bridged that gap perfectly, tying together grime, rap, trap and drill into something that paid homage to what came before while bringing the new street sounds to the big time.

Smoke Boys inspired a whole generation of drillers and you'd be hard pressed to find anyone working on UK rap or drill who wasn't inspired by them.

"Our next tape 'All The Smoke' with MKThePlug will be the last every Smoke Boys project. Thank you to everybody that's every been a part of our journey. To all the fans, supporters, family & friends, it's been a pleasure to actually say we've made a mark in the music industry with some of the historical [sic] events we made happen. Let's make this one to remember."
