HERITAGE: S.A.S, Wretch 32 And More Drop Nothing But Fire In This BBC2 Rap Cypher (2011)

October 08, 2021

It's taken a little time, but recently it looks as if people are finally starting to get clued up on the contributions of S.A.S, aka Streets All Salute. In the 2000s and early 2010s, the duo of Mayhem and Mega helped put British hip-hop on the map and let the US know we're a force to be reckoned with. They connected with our stateside counterparts a lot—they even signed to Roc-A-Fella and partnered with Dipset—but it was always on their own terms, and the effect that had on the scene can't be overstated.

In 2011 they took part in a cypher for BBC2 alongside Wretch 32 and Mystro (now known as MysDiggi). It was a lowkey affair, but a significant one all the same. Taking turns on Kanye's "Power" instrumental, it's a world away from the rap landscape of 2021, but it's testament to their effortless skill. Unfortunately, they had to censor quite of MysDiggi's bars, but there's still plenty to enjoy in this meeting of UK hip-hop heavyweights.
