HERITAGE: Original Sugababes Member Mutya Buena Showcases Her Solo Talent Performing Her Single "Real Girl" (2007)

When Mutya Buena left the Sugababes in 2005 to go solo the general consensus was that she would be absolutely fine and that the group would never be the same without her. That proved to be entirely the right assumption because the Kingsbury-born singer enjoyed ample success as a solo artist, particularly with her 2007 single "Real Girl".

Her run as a solo artist couldn't have gone much better. Soon after leaving she collaborated with Groove Armada on their Soundboy Rock album (a prelude to their work on another of her hits, "Song 4 Mutya") and then collaborated with George Michael on her album's first single, "This Is Not Real Love".

"Real Girl", with its sample of Lenny Kravitz's hit "It Ain't Over 'Til It's Over", proved to be the album's biggest single though, hitting number 2 in the charts and earning her a MOBO nomination for Best Song.

Over a decade later, and after many twists and turns (including dipping her toe deeper into the garage scene she's always loved), the original line-up of Sugababes reformed and there's no denying Mutya's involvement was a huge part of its success.
