The late 1980s and early '90s were an incredible time for Manchester. Sure, their legacy lives on and the city's steady stream of talent hasn't really slowed since; but the days of Madchester were colossal in terms of cultural influence and longevity.

It wasn't just acid house and indie that Manchester was dominating; Simply Red were crushing the charts and an unassuming young soul singer called Lisa Stansfield was scooping awards all over the world for her second ever solo single, "All Around The World". Those awards included, but were not limited to, Brit Awards, Ivor Novello Awards, a Billboard Music Award, a World Music Award, an ASCAP Award, a Women's World Award, Silver Clef Awards and DMC Awards... and probably a few more besides.

He first break came when she won a talent show called Search For A Star, before finding modest success with the group Blue Zone. She got her first taste of real success when she collaborated with Coldcut on undergound anthem "People Hold On" in 1989, but things went stratospheric when she released her debut album, Affection, and with it the now inescapable "All Around The World".
