HERITAGE: London's Own Derek B Stands Tall Next To Run DMC And Public Enemy With "We Got The Juice" At Montreux Rock Festival (1988)

Back in the late 1980s when Britain was still trying to find its voice in hip-hop, Hammersmith-born Derek B was repping for us in a big way.

Though he only released one album (Bullet From A Gun, again in 1988), Derek B left an indelible mark on the scene. The bulk of his music was released via Simon Harris' Music Is Life, a label best known for releasing a tonne of singles from Daddy Freddy, MC Duke and Demon Boyz. Besides that, he worked with the Cookie Crew and Eric B & Rakim, and even had a hand in writing the infamous "Anfield Rap" for Liverpool FC.

Today's Heritage sees him performing on stage at the Montreux Rock Show alongside two of the biggest hip-hop acts of all time: Public Enemy and Run DMC. After following Public Enemy's "Don't Believe The Hype" and Run DMC's show-opener "Run's House", Derek B strode on to the stage with unshakable confidence to perform his 1988 hit "We Got The Juice".
