HERITAGE: Little Miss Jocelyn Shares Her Unique (And Hilarious) Perspective On The Black British Experience In Her Comedy Sketch Show (2006)

Back in 2003, comedian Jocelyn Jee Esien was one of three stars in the sketch show 3 Non-Blondes, alongside Ninia Benjamin and Tameka Empson. All three had proven talents and impressive CVs, even then, including Trigger Happy TV, The Ali G Show, The Fast Show and The Lenny Henry Show, and 3 Non Blondes put them all on the map.

It only ran for one series though and a couple of years later, Esien was ready with her own show, Little Miss Jocelyn. Broadcast on BBC3 and written entirely herself, Little Miss Jocelyn broke a lot of ground and was a rare example of the Black British experience getting a chance to shine in a mainstream (white) space.

And, as this Twitter user pointed out, "Little Miss Jocelyn marked the first time in the history of television — in either the US or the UK — that a black woman had ever been given her own solo comedy sketch show."
