HERITAGE: Lady Leshurr Shows Off Her Finest Tongue-Twisting Bars For Seminal Video Series 'Volume Control' (2011)

July 03, 2018

Yesterday, we published a piece about how we believe regional accents have improved grime and UK rap immeasurably. Of course, one of the names we had to mention was Lady Leshurr and her instantly recognisable bars.

One of the first outlets to spot her astonishing talents early on was helmed by our very own Laura 'Hyperfrank' Brosnan. Going by the name Volume Control, the series saw Hyperfrank invite emerging producers from across the UK to send in three completely different styles — grime, UKG, trap, rap or "lucky dip experimental". Readers of her blog and of Grimeforum would vote for their favourite. Hyperfrank would then bring in a rapper or MC of her choice to take on the instrumental.

Past editions included the likes of Dot Rotten, Durrty Goodz, Griminal and more. For today's Heritage, though, we're looking at Lady Leshurr's contribution. The rowdy, teeth-grinding instrumental for this edition came from Ipswich producer Neon Beats who gives Leshurr the perfect backdrop to let loose her tongue-twisting flow.
