HERITAGE: Kwabs Gives Us A Powerful Rendition Of James Blake's "The Wilhelm Scream" (2012)

When James Blake dropped his self-titled 2011 debut album, it was a landmark moment. Widely held up as the gold standard of the so-called 'post-dubstep' scene, it would go on to spawn an almost infinite number of imitators. That's not to take anything away from how exceptional and era-defining the album was and that status is in no small part down to keystone track "The Wilhelm Scream".

A year later and Kwabs, one of the few vocalists up to the challenge, rose to the occasion perfectly. Sitting down with his band, the South London soul man transformed Blake's fragile, electronically-warped vocals into a powerful cry of anguish.

Save for an appearance on NAO's Saturn album in 2018, Kwabs has been quiet musically for the past few years. Hopefully he ends his hiatus sooner rather than later.
