HERITAGE: Kano Takes Us Back To Newham To Tell The Stories Behind His Lyrics (2016)

May 14, 2021

It feels like just last week that Kano dropped Made In The Manor — even though he's dropped a whole other album, Hoodies All Summer, since then — but it's actually been a long five years since then.

Thanks to certified anthems like "Garage Skank" and "3 Wheel-Ups", Made In The Manor is still held up as one of his finest, staying true to his grime roots while pushing forward with elements of Gospel, jazz and soul in the mix.

Here he is, just before release day, laying out his creative process from the very first moment he puts pen to paper right through to the finishing touches. The album remains one of his most personal projects yet, and here we get to see the places he name-checks, from the family home to Newham Leisure Centre ("where the girls at"), and pretty much everywhere in between.

Directed by Sam Wrench with archive footage from Risky Roadz and the Bound 2 Blow DVD, take a trip down memory lane below.
