HERITAGE: Kano, Bashy, D Double E And More Light Up The Freeze FM Airwaves (2003)

First invading our FM dials in 1999, Freeze FM was the pride of West London. Bridging the postcode gaps, the station hosted sets with grime crews from every borough and became one of the essential hubs when grime started to explode in the early 2000s.

Over the years they broadcast countless historic sets, but this one in particular is one for the books. The footage itself was later immortalised in a feature length documentary by DJ and chronicler Ashley J (you can find that here), but we wanted to highlight this half-hour section for the wealth of titans they crammed into one room.

Representing N*A*S*T*Y Crew, Musical Mobb, Boyz In Da Hood, Mucky Wolfpack, SLK and Roll Deep, we have in no particular order, Bashy, Kano, D Double E, Flirta D, Stormin, Crazy Titch, Rugrat, Discarda, Nasty Jack, Sharky Major, Flowdan, Gods Gift, Armour, J Wing, and Dynamic M. It's cramped, it's intense, and it crackles with an electric energy that defined the early days of grime.

Sadly, as we know, all good things have to come to an end eventually and the station finally closed its doors in 2009, but its colossal legacy will never be forgotten.
