HERITAGE: Jorja Smith Performs Her Song "Blue Lights" That Was Inspired By Dizzee Rascal's "Sirens" (2017)

July 06, 2021

A lot has happened in the last five years, most of it bad, so it feels like a lifetime ago that Jorja Smith made her jaw-dropping debut with "Blue Lights".

As hinted in the lyrics ("I can hear the sirens coming"), the track was inspired by Dizzee Rascal's Maths + English smasher "Sirens", although obviously she took the concept in the exact opposite direction, sonically speaking at least.

Here she is in 2017, still riding high on the track's seismic success, performing the solemn cut on Later… with Jools Holland. As we all know, she's since gone on to become a global powerhouse, but even when she just had this one gem to her name, it was plain for all to see that she had a long and prosperous career ahead of her.

Tune in below and join us in remembering what it was like before everything was on fire.
