HERITAGE: Ice Kid Unleashes His Fierce Flow In This Early Freestyle (2009)

April 24, 2020

Back in 2010 DJ Magic's faultless No Hats No Hoods label put together the DTA Grimetape project in collaboration with LA-based clothing brand DTA Posse, an enormous 27-track collection of exclusives from some of the best to ever do it. P Money, Scrufizzer, Jammer, Rapid, Lil Nasty, Badness and many more all chipped in with tracks — as did the ever-elusive Ice Kid.

Here's Ice Kid back in 2009, laying down a freestyle to hype up interest in the tape in the months leading up to the drop. Everything from his whipcrack flow to the strings-led riddims will bring back a flood of emotional memories for grime fans. If you thought that was a nostalgia trip though, take a look at the tape's tracklist and you'll see more than a few historic legends cropping up.

A physical version was made available at the time, but as you can imagine that was snapped up quickly. Thankfully, you can still cop the digital version at the No Hats No Hoods Bandcamp.
