Back in 2012, Idris Elba narrated a Channel 4 deep-dive into the history of rave music and its pivotal moments titled How Clubbing Changed The World. Of course, Goldie had his own section, specifically his application of a technique known as "time-stretching" to breakbeats.

As Fabio explains, it was a watershed moment for jungle, a genre that wasn't taken as seriously as an art form when it first emerged in the early '90s. But once Goldie got his hands on the H3 Harmonizer (a piece of equipment originally designed to allow studio hands to change the pitch of guitars or other instruments to double them up on a record) to create those snakey, spiralling breakbeats it ushered in a whole new era of jungle and drum & bass.
