HERITAGE: Ghetts Puts An Acoustic Spin On His 'Freedom Of Speech' Track "I'm Ghetts" (2008)

Although he's quite rightly celebrated as a legend in the grime scene, Ghetts has made it clear from day one that there's more to his repertoire than 160 crud. Even with Freedom Of Speech, the 2008 album he's been quoted as saying put the "darkness" into grime, he always kept it versatile with different flows and, in this case, acoustic performances.

Recorded a couple of months after FoS dropped, the acoustic performance of "I'm Ghetts" highlighted the beginning of a transitional period for the Plaistow legend. Sure, it's credited to Ghetto rather than Ghetts and a lot of the content is the kind of abrasive, fast-paced stuff we'd associate with the former alias, but it also showed off his more technical side, offering us the beginning of the increasing complexities we'd see on Calm Before The Storm and Rebel With A Cause.
