HERITAGE: Devlin And Dogzilla's 'Practice Hours' Session Catches Kanye's Eye (2006)

January 26, 2018

Way before Kanye West stormed the stage of The Brits with Boy Better Know, Stormzy, Discarda, Novelist and the rest of the scene, West was keeping tabs on some of grime's biggest players.

This Practice Hours session (courtesy of Troy 'A Plus' Miller) from back in 2006 caused a hell of a storm. Apart from marking out OT Crew members Devlin and Dogzilla as forces to be reckoned with—cemented their crew within the legacy of grime—it also attracted the attention of Kanye.

At the time, the hip-hop star took to his blog and posted the video with the caption "Gangster rap". While we strongly suspect he wasn't being all the way serious, it just goes to show how early he was watching grime and how deep he looked into the scene.

"He did a bit of free promotion for me, but I think he was most likely taking the p**s, wasn't he?" Devlin joked at the time. Whatever the case, there's always a reason to revisit Devlin and Dogzilla's classic freestyle.
