HERITAGE: Damian Marley Makes A Surprise Appearance At The Legendary Saxon Sound System At Notting Hill Carnival (2013)

July 15, 2022

Nothing touches the magic of Notting Hill Carnival. Taking over the leafy streets of West London with soundsystems, Caribbean food stalls, and the entire global supply of Red Stripe, there's really nothing quite like it.

What's really special, though, is the unpredictability. Given Carnival's global pulling power, there's no telling who might turn up for a secret set. Back in 2013, Saxon brought one such guest to their always-crowded corner of Carnival: Damian 'Jr. Gong' Marley, and he delivered an incredible set on the curbside.

Word spread quickly of course and everyone was desperate to get close to the dancehall legend, so it wasn't easy to get a good view. Thankfully, it was recorded for posterity and between the crowded sea of phones and gunfingers, you can just about see the legend himself smash through hits like "Stand A Chance" and "Road To Zion".
