HERITAGE: Conscious Grime MC Purple Delivers An Eye-Opening 'Streetwise' Freestyle (2006)

April 17, 2019

Way back in the early-to-mid 2000s, West London's Purple (aka Purple Simba and one third of Renegade Boys alongside DJ Goodness and G-Double) was one of the most respected emcees in the game, an MC's MC if ever there was one. An early pioneer of injecting conscious lyricism into his bars, Purple's lyrics were always challenging and crammed full of complicated concepts and multi-layered wordplay.

If you do know him, chances are you heard him via his standout contributions to True Tiger's Eye Of The Tiger Volume 1 mixtape or the legendary Amsterdam's Up In Smoke Concert with Roll Deep, N.A.S.T.Y Crew and Renegade Boys.

If you're able to track down a copy of the Streetwise DVD, make sure you do so you can catch freestyles from Skepta, Flirta D, Crazy Titch, J2K, Trim, Jammer, Virus Syndicate and a whole bag more.
