HERITAGE: Boy Better Know Take To The Stage At Radio 1's Big Weekender With "Too Many Man" (2009)

2009 was a funny time for grime. On the one hand, the Guardian was hailing the "grime goldrush" thanks to a remarkable batch of hits like Tempa T's "Next Hype" and BBK's "Too Many Man", but it was almost impossible to find grime in a live setting thanks to Form 696 and an epidemic of racist policing.

So while a lot of the traditional avenues had been shut off, a select few like Boy Better Know were at least able to find a few outlets, arguably because their 2009 album VIP had seen them explore sounds beyond the confines of grime.

Here they are — minus Jammer and Jme — storming the stage at Tim Westwood's set at Radio 1's Big Weekender. Let's be honest though, most of the crowd were not on board with it and didn't quite seem to realise how good they had it that sunny afternoon. Credit it where it's due: BBK still smashed it.
