HERITAGE: Big Brovaz Take The Charts By Storm With Their Take On "Favourite Things" (2003)

June 25, 2021

Turn of the millennium group Big Brovaz originally consisted of six members — three rappers (J-Rock, Flawless and Randy) and three singers (Cherise Roberts, Dion Howell and Nadia Shepherd) — as well as two producers (Skillz aka JJC and Fingaz).

Here they are back in 2003 with their Sound Of Music-nodding hit "Favourite Things". Arriving just as Dizzee Rascal was about to blow, they weren't always taken seriously or given the credit they deserve (possibly due to the decision to put on American accents). But, alongside "Nu Flow", this was a big pop moment and one that people of a certain age will cherish as an anthem from their childhoods.

The group ended up having a couple more hits after "Favourite Things" (including "OK", "Baby Boy" and a cover of Sly & The Family Stone's "Thank You", which they performed on screen in Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed) before eventually splitting for good a few years later. However, four members of Big Brovaz — J-Rock, Nadia, Cherise and Randy — reformed in 2018 and were still touring until lockdown put a stop to live music.
