HERITAGE: Ahead Of A New Season Of 'Top Boy' This Month, We Look At Ashley Walters' Post-So Solid Career (2007)

September 04, 2019

After years of anticipation, this month (September 13) sees Top Boy make its return to our screens via Netflix. Ahead of the new series, we're going back to 2007 to relive Top Boy star Ashley Walters' post-So Solid Crew career.

That was the year that Walters, aka Asher D, released the hard-hitting single "Andrea". The single was taken from In Memory Of The Street Fighter, Walters' first album after So Solid split in 2006.

Produced by Para-Beats and with a video directed by Eran Creevy and Mat Whitecross, "Andrea" tells the tale of Walters offering compassion and sympathy to a young girl being taken advantage of by an older man. After the controversy and negative press coverage that dogged much of So Solid's career, this was perfectly-timed proof that Walters and the rest were some of the finest lyricists UK music has ever had — and far more intelligent than the tabloids gave them credit for.
