Hak Baker Announces Upcoming 'World's End FM' Album With New Single "Windrush Baby"

March 31, 2023

East London's Hak Baker has released a new single, "Windrush Baby", and it comes with the announcement of a new album, World's End FM.

"Windrush Baby" was recorded with long-time collaborator Karma Kid over two days at Abbey Road Studios and it's classic Hak Baker: blending genres that sit on opposite sides of the musical landscape and lacing his instrumentals with his thick cockney twang as he does. As alluded to in the title, he tells the story of his Jamaican mother moving to the UK at the young age of 17, and how the children of Windrush have carved out their identity in a country that didn't feel like their parents' own.

Speaking on the continued effects of Windrush, Hak writes: "Windrush affected people in a multitude of ways. Broken families, broken trust and broken bonds, bonds that were falsely sold to us by the "Empire". I, on the other hand, living through the generational consequences of these mishaps, have managed to manifest joy from these times. The hardened shell passed down by my mother, enabled me to live my life fearlessly, seeking fun and learning harsh life lessons at every instance. To be a child of such treachery can only be an advantage and a superpower. The Windrush Baby can never be broken. We are the offspring of the resilient."

Having built a cult fan base through the genre-mashing and social commentary of his previous projects, the upcoming debut is described as a "creative leap, tailor-made for an era of social inequity, internet addiction, and post-pandemic disillusionment".

World's End FM, Hak Baker's debut album is slated for release on June 9. You can watch the live performance of "Windrush Baby" below.
