South London producer Hagan is back with his new EP, Hagan's Calling.

The new four-track collection connects his Ghanaian roots with South African club sounds and his UK surroundings. Elements of West African hip-hop with 3-step, UK funky, highlife, gqom, Afro house and more all get a look-in and it boasts a strong, conceptual visual element.

On ", Hagan calls on Ghanaian rap heavyweight M.anifest and rising Highlife artist Rcee to tap into the West African element. Elsewhere, vocalist zoudé brings a soft, melodic sheen to the shuffling, layered rhythms to EP closer "Slow Motion".

Speaking on "Mfantsefo Dance, Hagan shares: "The guitars in 'Mfantsefo Dance' create a sense of motion, and higher pluck synths are used to cool down specific moments. The instrumental cuts are rough, yet they bring a fresh feel to the dancefloor alongside the two vocal tracks."

For the visual element, Hagan teamed up with Ethiopian photographer Adiam Yemane who took a series of photographs of Hagan that seek to puncture the connections between Blackness and 'urban' environments with natural colours, textures and settings.

Hagan shares: "I believe subsections of my music are deeply rooted in natural elements. Hagan's Calling, as a project, features sounds that feel raw and organic; in my mind, the frequencies of different musical elements evoke natural materials. I use pads to create a sense of stillness and intensify build-ups, while the basslines provide warmth. The guitars in 'Mfantsefo' create a sense of motion, and higher pluck synths are used to cool down specific moments. The instrumental cuts are rough, yet they bring a fresh feel to the dancefloor alongside the two vocal tracks.

"On a personal level, being in nature is a core part of who I am, which influences my production and sound selection. For this project, we wanted to explore the UK countryside to show how beautiful visuals can exist outside of typical city aesthetics—something not often seen in Black electronic music."
