Guvna B Explores Addiction, Recovery, Fatherhood & More On New Album 'This Bed I Made'
Guvna B's new album, This Bed I Made, is here. One of Guvna's most introspective to date, it tackles some difficult themes, including addiction, recovery, accountability, and the healing process that follows.
Guvna's faith and his Ghanaian heritage are also explored, often providing some relief for the more painful moments of the album. "Healing Power", for example, is both a highlight and a welcome salve with rousing vocal harmonies and heaps of Ghanaian influence. Elsewhere, discussions of fatherhood with Brighton duo Frankie Stew & Harvey Gunn on "Stickers On The Wall" and a message to his kids on "Breakfast In The Sky" offer more gentle uplifts.
Features-wise, we get appearances from Bawo, Samm Henshaw, Ghanaian artist AratheJay, rising French-Congolese singer Claudia Isaki, and the Melodies from Heaven Choir, with production credits for BenjiFlow, TSB, Joel Baker, Maths Time Joy, Quinn Oulton, SAMPAH, Zento, and Jacob Riddall.
Alongside the album, an accompanying short film has also been released. Directed by Christoph Davis, the film was written by and stars Guvna B with contributions from trauma expert Dr Gabor Maté. Both the album and the film come with support from The Forward Trust and Samaritans.
