Guvna B Connects With Michaela Coel To Help Turn His Pain Into Passion On Visceral "Bridgeland Road"

January 27, 2023

East London-raised artist, presenter and best-selling author Guvna B pens his frustrations with the legal system in his new track "Bridgeland Road".

SAMPAH and Jimmy James adopt a minimalist approach to the production with a steady boom-kat and sombre piano chords as we tread a winding path into Guvna B's mind. He delivers five minutes of unfiltered storytelling by first setting the scene within the London estate that raised him before recounting a racially motivated attack that took place in 2021. The agony in his bars is plain for all to hear as, once again, we witness the shortcomings of the legal system play out in the life of a Black man.

Through the static of a voice note he receives gentle advice from Michaela Coel who suggests using writing as a way to release and process the incident, a release that ultimately led to the creation of "Bridgeland Road". It also lands with the announcement of an album, The Village Is On Fire, which was referenced in the closing line of the track.

The black and white visuals interpret the brutalist nature of his surroundings and the life-changing experiences that unravel within these spaces. While we await specific details on the album, take in "Bridgeland Road" below.
