Following up their 2020 drill cypher, creative agency Groundworks recently rounded up some of the scene's best and brightest for a new 2022 edition that includes Unknown T, KO, V9, DA, Mazza, Alchubbino, Jimmy, Smokes, Hitman, Horrid1, Trapx10, Kilo Jugg and Tugz.

Sitting alongside the new cypher they also put out The G Tape: Volume 1, featuring many of the names from the cypher. Loaded with spirited spitters from rap and drill, it's a timely reminder of the vanguard of talent elevating the scene through collaboration.

The highlights come thick and fast. Early on in the project we get 98s' punchy "Eastside Story", which flips a sample from Santana's 2000s hit "Maria Maria" with some skippy drill percussion. Then there's the ominous, drill-heavy "110%" with Trapx10 and TALLERZ steering the ship. Rounding out the tracklist, are heaters from Potter Payper, M Huncho, Unknown T, Digga D, KO, DA, Billy Billions, Kilo Jugg, Biggz, Mwoo, and Teeway.

The G Tape: Volume 1 is a powerful start to the new year from some of the bright talents holding up UK rap.
