Greentea Peng Unveils Final Album Teaser "Free My People" With SIMMY And Kid Cruise

June 02, 2021

Since the announcement of her debut album, Man Made, Greentea Peng has released a string of hypnotic singles for us to bask in. Through her soothing blend of R&B, dub, soul, reggae and vibes pulled from the natural world, she tackles topics like systemic oppression, unity, death and rebirth.

On the latest one, "Free My People", GTP details the realities of mass incarceration, laying it all out over a reggae bounce and groove-ridden bass line pieced together by long-time collaborator Earbuds. Featuring the delicate croons of SIMMY and Kid Cruise as they echo the refrain "ignoring all my people in our protests", this track is a small bite of the political musings and genre-blending musical arrangements we are yet to experience on the rest of the album.

The hazy video, directed by Melody Maker, reflects the extended period of isolation we experienced through the pandemic. Shot in a delapidated home, each artist is placed in a separate room to drive home the "Free My People" mantra as they speak on the troubling reality of our society.

Before Man Made arrives on June 4, sink into a vibe you can't find anywhere else with "Free My People".
