Giggs Pledges Support For 'Art Not Evidence' Campaign

January 17, 2024

For some years now, rap has been under siege by the authorities, who have taken to using artists' lyrics as evidence in court. The 'Art Not Evidence' campaign has sought to put an end to this in the hope that artists will be able to use the licence of expression in its fullness and without the fear of incrimination.

Yesterday, Giggs added his support to the 'Art Not Evidence' campaign when he explained how his lyrics had once been used against him in court. He also reiterated how important the campaign was and urged fans to support it.

Taking to Instagram, the Peckham legend explained how he spent seven months on remand for a crime he didn't commit, and how the court case "became all about my lyrics". Detailing the facts clearly, Giggs states in the Instagram post that, "this is judging if someone is going to face life in prison or even just one day," before continuing, "Rap music or art is not always 100% facts. You can't prove something is 100% facts from listening to a song."
