Ghetts Looks Inwards On Moving "Proud Family"

December 17, 2020

Grime and rap veteran Ghetts has a long history of taking risks and moving in unexpected directions, but even by his standards 2020 has seen him deliver some of his finest — and most diverse — work yet.

Not content with releasing two of the year's best tracks ("Mozambique" with Jaykae and Moonchild Sanelly, and "IC3" with Skepta), Justin Clarke returns with "Proud Family", a profoundly moving meditation on the joys and challenges of family life.

Produced by TenBillion Dreams (with co-production credits going to Kadz, Pepstar and TJ), "Proud Family" is built around a subdued, gospel-tinged instrumental and features some of Ghetts' best songwriting as well as a rare example of his singing on the hook. Heartbreaking and uplifting in equal measure, Ghetts explores what it means to be a family and how to navigate the hardships that life sometimes throws at us.

Hit play on Nathan James Tettey's visuals below to see two very different family stories play out side by side.
