GAIKA Teams Up With Mexico's NAAFI Label For 'Seguridad' EP

July 08, 2020

Last Friday, GAIKA released his new project Seguridad, a nine-track collection of far-reaching and wildly adventurous collaborations with musicians and producers from Mexican label NAAFI. Produced while out on tour in Puerto Escondido, the new EP features contributions from Tayhana, Omaar, Zutzut, Lechuga Zafiro, Lao, Debit and Wasted Fates.

As is often the case with GAIKA's music, Seguridad is a politically-charged sonic rebellion, inspired by the worsening inequality around the world and the responses that are spreading like wildfire across the globe. "'Ghetto' isn't just to do with Black people," he explained, "but it's all the people who live under the boot, the 99%, and how we end up revelling in what other people deem the shadow."

Inspired by the hotbed of experimentalism flourishing across Central and South America on the peripheries of the reggaeton and Baile funk scenes, Seguridad is as passionate as he's ever been and filled with an indisputable heat.

Away from the EP and in spite of COVID, it's been a busy year for GAIKA. Just last month he launched online streaming series Nine Nights with live performances from the likes of Mista Silva, Tasha LC, Keyah/Blu, Azekel, Shannen SP, Louis VI and many more.
