Flowdan Triumphs As First UK MC To Win Grammy Award

February 05, 2024

Grime legend Flowdan, whose career predates even grime itself, has won a Grammy for his vocals on "Rumble", his collaborative club banger with Fred again.. and Skrillex.

Scooping up the gong for Best Dance/Electronic Recording, the East London veteran has become the first UK MC to win a prestigious Grammy Award.

Also listed as recipients were fellow contributors BEAM (the Jamaican-American artist whose lyrics on Skrillex's "Selecta" were used on the track) and U.S. singer Elley Duhé, who also provided vocals.

Since his days as a jungle MC on pirate radio in the late '90s, before joining Pay As U Go Cartel and later co-founding Roll Deep, Flowdan has stayed true to his passion. Throughout his two-decade-plus career, Flowdan has demonstrated peerless skill, applying his unique, dancehall-influenced flow to grime, dubstep, D&B and jungle, and forming tight creative bonds with producers like The Bug, Abstrakt Sonance and, of course, Skrillex.

Flowdan's success is a lesson for us all to put more respect on his name and that of grime.
