Shy FX Transforms Fish Go Deep's Iconic "The Cure & The Cause" Into A Reggae Bubbler
Shy FX has just turned in a surprising reggae remix of Fish Go Deep and Tracey K's iconic 2006 floor-filler "The Cure & The Cause".
It's the first remix to be heard from the forthcoming House Of Roots Remix project, a new three-track EP compiled by David Rodigan that explores the intersection between dance music and sound system culture.
The three-track EP was born from Rodigan's debut appearance at Defected Croatia that proved to be a roaring success. When he returned this year, he brought his bag of House Of Roots remixes with him and blew the roof off.
Shy FX's remix completely recontextualises the whole track, swapping the bubbly house shuffle for skank-ready steppers reggae. The first of three remixes, it sets the tone for the Clipz's remix of Soul Central's solid gold "Strings Of Life" and Prince Fatty's take on The Vision's 2019 jam "Heaven".
Speaking on his remix, Shy FX shares: "This was probably one of the most daunting mixes I've ever done, just because I love the original so much. It's one of those tunes where you really don't want to get it wrong.
"I said to Rodigan from the start, I'll give it a go, but if I don't love it, I'm going to have to pass. Although jungle would have been the obvious route for me, I didn't want to disrespect the feel of the original by speeding it up just for the sake of it. So I kept it at the original tempo and went down the reggae route."
The House Of Roots Remix arrives October 23 digitally and as a limited edition 7" vinyl box set on Defected.
