FFSYTHO And Jabru Connect With Alice Russell For Soul-Stirring "Keep On"

September 29, 2021

Having connected over martial arts films, BMXing and life in provincial towns, Exeter producer Jabru and Northampton MC FFSYTHO first came together earlier this year when the former remixed the latter's "Ask About Me" into a jazz-rap fusion — and they've been firm friends ever since. Now, after smashing up festivals across the country, the pair have connected with UK soul star Alice Russell and an ensemble of musicians for their brand new track, "Keep On", which just landed on Purple City.

Backed by the surge of layered brass from Gentleman's Dub Club and guitars from Space Dimension Controller, Russell's vocal display adds the spirit-tugging elements of gospel as she echoes the line "I've gotta keep on moving", an urgent plea for listeners to do the same. FFSYTHO matches the energy of Jabru's floor-shaking production, charging in with a slew of rapid-flow bars packed with uplifting messages and a loud-and-proud reminder of her "unapologetically gay" identity, something she's never shied away from in her music.

Bringing together sounds like soul, hip-hop and gospel with artists from different walks of life; "Keep On" is a collaboration we didn't know we needed until now.
