Get Schooled On The History Of Jungle And D&B With This New Doc Featuring Goldie, Grooverider, Andy C, And More

One of the miraculous, but not too surprising, things about drum & bass and jungle is that they've never really gone quiet since Amen break-driven sound first emerged in the early '90s. There's a whole slew of reasons why — the existence of several different strains for one — but it's mostly down to the grassroots movements that cropped up across the country, whether it's London, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Glasgow, Newcastle...

It's that topic as well as its evolution over the years that gets investigated in Drum & Bass: The Movement, a new documentary from director Bailey Hyatt, producer Craig Haynes and writer Dave Jenkins. Five years in the making, the feature-length doc looks at what they've described as a "specific and intense slice of drum & bass and jungle culture's rapid acceleration from 1996 - 2016".

The documentary features interviews and contributions from some of the titans that helped sculpt the sound, including Goldie, Grooverider, Andy C, DJ Hype, Roni Size, GQ, Digital, Spirit, Total Science and many more. It also looks at some of the club nights, labels and venues that have provided a home to the sound, including RAGE, Metalheadz's Sunday Sessions, Renegade Hardware and so many more.

We could keep going on about the electric energy of D&B and jungle forever, but for now take a look at the doc below and then revisit our recent feature on rollers and jungle.
