Dexter Adds A Touch Of Lo-Fi Club Vigour To Her Bedroom Pop Sound On "Paper Cup"

October 25, 2021

Just a couple of months ago, South West London's dexter shared her debut EP I Do Love A Good Sandwich, which divulged her moments of self-realisations over airy, melancholic soundscapes. Wasting no time at all she has returned with another dose of deeply intimate reflections on new track "Paper Cup".

Producer Kirusu is behind the beat, which features a soothing, dance-worthy groove held together by a light sub-bass and shimmering piano chords. Dexter's delicate vocals glide over the beat as she sings about detaching from all your crippling worries.

Speaking on the track she says: "'Paper Cup' is about me feeling overwhelmed by my thoughts and how that can often stop me from doing the simplest of things, for example just getting a cup of water to drink, that's why it's called 'Paper Cup'. I would've just sung 'cup' but it sounded better with paper. I also really wanted to make a song that was kind of dancey as I don't really have any like that, something that has a more fast-paced vibe to it and that's different to what I have done before."

Updated on December 8: the official video has now landed.
