David Armada Reveals His Hazy, Lo-Fi Take On Rap With Debut Project 'ANKA'

September 13, 2021

Today, South East London rapper David Armada shares his debut project, ANKA, which seamlessly blends old school samples, hazy guitar loops and lo-fi-inspired soundscapes, all bound together by his understated lyrical style. Sitting in the nooks between lo-fi, hip-hop and underground rap, it's the kind of music that positions itself next to names like Theodor Black, Sam Wise and Louis Culture.

As we progress through the eight-track project, Armada walks us through the full range of his expansive and varied sonic palette. For that we can thank producers Esstate, Kxmel, Dom Valentino, Dom Tavlor and naws whose skills bring this project to life while Armada takes us on a journey through his world as he documents his personal experiences.

Feature-wise, he calls on Hiroishi Thomas, Rayen, and Deema, the latter of whom Armada previously connected with for "Hash Brown", a more upbeat offering than the laid back rap style he displays on ANKA opener "Deep End".

While we wait to see what's next from the young artist, sink into ANKA below.
