Croydon 97.8FM Is Officially Launching As An FM Broadcaster

May 19, 2021

South London radio station Croydon 97.8FM has officially been granted FM status by Ofcom. The station had also applied for a community license in 2019, which Ofcom awarded in May of last year.

Although founded in 2018 by local resident Clive Campbell, Croydon FM feels like it's been here forever. In just three years, the Black-owned and not-for-profit station has become a powerful force in championing South London culture and elevating local talent.

The station and its 40+ staff members play an active role in supporting community projects, creating jobs and backing youth training and local events. Many of them are also involved in running Croydon Boxpark and The Ends Festival.

Recognising Croydon FM as an exceptional case, "this will be the last round of community radio licensing on FM or AM for the foreseeable future."

Head to the radio station's website for more information.
