'COMO VOCÊ' Documentary Transports Us Into The Thick Of Brazil's Grime Scene

July 27, 2022

This year alone, we've seen a number of documentaries unpacking the roots of grime or spotlighting some key figures in the genre's evolution from Home Invasion: The Story Of Channel U to Risky Roadz 0121. Now Brazil's burgeoning grime scene, unfolding on the animated streets of Rio De Janeiro and São Paulo, will receive some well-deserved air time.

Written and directed by writer, DJ, and TRENCH contributing editor Jesse Bernard, COMO VOCÊ will showcase artists like TBC Mob, Febem, Lei Di Dai, Cena, MC Smith, and others who are taking what we know as grime and splicing in their native sounds of Baile funk, dancehall, and rap to create their own unique form of expression within the community.

Through a collection of live performance footage and monologue-style voiceovers, the documentary is completely guided by the stories of various DJs of Brazil. Fittingly, COMO VOCÊ will also be accompanied by a soundtrack EP titled Pra Cima with contributions from some of the artists featured in the documentary.

A thrilling look at what grime morphs into when it lands in different territories with a freh set of hungry MCs, the new doc is available via WePresent here.
