Cleo Sol Makes A Welcome Return With Soul-Nourishing 'Mother'

Some may recognise the buttery croons of Cleo Sol from the post-punk/funk outfit SAULT, but it was the 2019 album Rose In The Dark that earned her mass recognition for her raw blend of R&B and soul, which can only be described as a slice of heaven. Her latest project, Mother, is an intimate exploration of motherhood and the process of finding solid ground through life's chaotic moments, all packed into 12 tracks.

Over the orchestral backdrop, intricate four-part harmonies and gospel-leaning lyrics, Cleo Sol journeys listeners through an emotionally rewarding experience. Some highlights include the gentle opener "Don't Let Me Fall", the slowed disco-inspired "Promises" and "Don't Let It Go To Your Head", which echoes with bongo drum rhythms and a groovy bassline.

Much like Cleo's previous album, this new offering oozes with a deep sense of familiarity in a way that allows Cleo Sol's words to penetrate our heartspace from start to finish. Sink in below.
