Cleo Sol Blesses Us With Surprise New Album 'Heaven'

September 15, 2023

Cleo Sol's approach of letting her music speak for itself has brought her much success thus far. Today, she continues in that vein by dropping a new album, Heaven, having only announced it a week ago.

Her last album was 2021's Mother, which arrived just a year after her phenomenal debut album, Rose In The Dark, two of the finest soul albums in recent years. Even so, there's little doubt that Heaven will live up to its predecessors. At nine tracks long, the project's 30-minute run time is exactly the uplifting, spirit-nourishing experience that Cleo Sol fans would expect.

Produced exclusively by the extraordinary Inflo, Heaven picks up many of the same narrative threads as Cleo's previous albums, this time with the singer sharing insight into everything the past two years have taught her about life and self-love.

Judging by a recent Tweet, it appears the new album was timed to coincide with the two-year anniversary of Mother. She writes: "Two years since we released 'Mother' into the world, thank you for embracing me, and seeing me, writing my truth is sometimes difficult, but it's freeing, and having you support me pushes me to be brave."

Since 2021's Mother, Cleo Sol has (it's widely believed) been the mystery vocalist working closely with Inflo on the SAULT projects. Venturing between R&B, Afrobeat, post-punk and into the experimental and abstract, the SAULT projects offered a nice balance to the straight soul of Cleo's own solo material.

Arriving not a moment too soon, you can listen to Heaven below.
