Chip Delivers Like A Seasoned Veteran On 'Snakes & Ladders'

February 01, 2021

If there's a project that perfectly encapsulates the growth of an artist, it's Chip's Snakes & Ladders. The artist formally known as Chipmunk has entered 2021 with fire in his belly, following a well-documented dispute with South London rapper Stormzy, and he channels that fire exceptionally on Snakes & Ladders.

From the young prodigy who shelled out on Tim Westwood on Radio 1 at 16 years old to the mature artist who stands before us today, Snakes & Ladders gracefully hops between Afrobeats, dancehall, UKG, UK rap and grime, weaving together all the sounds that have influenced Chip to date. Snakes & Ladders contains Chip's trademark tongue twisting rhymes notably on "Ignite", "Allow It" and the now-infamous "Killer MC", a true display of Chip at his best. Elsewhere, "See Through", "Give Tanks" and "Top Shelf" show off the scope of his versatility, switching between styles and sounds and reinforcing his reputation for greatness on the mic.

Feature-wise, it's a star-studded affair with appearances from Kida Kudz, Jme, Dizzee Rascal, Tiwa Savage, Stylo G, Haile, Bugzy Malone, Headie One, Young M.A, D-Block Europe, MoStack and Mavado, who each bless the project in their own unique way.
