Che Lingo Returns To His Introspective Best With New Album 'Coming Up For Air'

April 12, 2023

Che Lingo makes his long-awaited return to the game with the release of his second album, Coming Up For Air.

The concise 10-track project sees Che catch fans up with the breakdowns and breakthroughs he's endured since his last project, 2020's The Worst Generation. Having carved out a reputation for conscious and introspective music, the new album furthers that reputation as he addresses his dealings with anxiety and eating disorders, topics not often broached in rap.

Speaking on some of the driving forces behind the album, Che explains: "[Coming Up For Air] is an intimate and personal look at myself and the people like me who find it hard to see themselves sometimes. It's for the moments you hate your job, or you're emotionally exhausted, finding it hard to see what makes you valuable. It's a place to get lost and escape and remember what and who you value within your life and purpose. I've had a number of months to sit with myself and unpack a lot of things, some of which I'm still exploring, or battling, after experiencing losing family members, sustaining terrible injuries, distancing from friends and relationship struggles, money issues, even an eating disorder. The CUFA album, in my own way, is to let people know that they aren't alone in these trials.

"Waves of depression and confidence, financial instability and love—it all starts with you and we always have to start from zero again a number of times in life, the bottom of that dark silent bed of dust and sediment is where we find our own ways to breathe."

Containing just 10 songs, Coming Up For Air is unsurprisingly pretty light on the features front—with Kojey Radical, Queen's Roger Taylor, Jordan Mackampa, and R&B duo WIINSTON being the only guests drafted in to lend their perspectives.

Ideal for anyone that seeks a message in their music, Coming Up For Air is well worth a listen – you can do just that below.
