C4's New Project Sets Him Right 'On Track'

October 07, 2022

Birmingham MC and producer C4 has kept things quiet on the release front this year—having released only two tracks in the form of the melodic drill cut "What You Need" and a "Cammy Riddim" freestyle—but he makes a welcome return with his latest project, On Track.

Well aware of his strengths, C4 confidently incorporates a wealth of genres and eras. There are exhilarating drill moments like "Don't Simmer It Down", while tracks like "See" with Preditah and J2K trigger a rush of nostalgia with its choppy high-pitched vocal sample reminiscent of grime's earlier days. There's also a noticeable R&B feel as he uses thick vocal harmonies to offset the straight-up barring.

Alongside the Preditah and J2K features, we also get guest spots from Manga Saint Hilare, Scrufizzer, Wiley, Silencer, Sideman, Odd Priest, Deadly R3al, Malik MD7 and Trilla. Arriving 10 years on from his grime classic "Off Track", this new tape is a potent reminder of his unbeatable creative flair on and off the mic.

Spin On Track after the jump.
