Fresh from completing a law degree, Zimbabwe-born, London-raised Ashleigh Bankx is now setting her sights on conquering the music game with her first official single, "Angel". Raised on the sounds of Zimbabwean Gospel music, Afro-jazz, and the local Zimbabwean sound of Sungura, Bankx funnels all of those sounds into her own warm, groove-laden take on R&B.

Opening with the powerful rhetoric of Nina Simone, "Angel" balances a proud and defiant celebration of Blackness with her own exploration of love and heartbreak. In the visuals, which come courtesy of Lutch Media, all of those elements are deftly brought to life with a visual palette that's striking and seductive from the outset.

That's just the beginning for Bankx. Word has it we can expect plenty more singles and even a series of EPs.
