Arlo Parks Offers An Invaluable Message Of "Hope"

January 28, 2021

We've had a lot of breakout stars this year, but one who continues to soar with a brighter and longer future than most is Arlo Parks. Her songwriting has proven peerless, gifting us no shortage of melancholic anthems like "Caroline", and before she releases her debut album, Collapsed In Sunbeams, she's got one last treat for us: "Hope".

As has become her trademark, it's the triple threat of soul-wrenching songwriting, arresting vocals and inspired arrangement that makes "Hope" such an affecting song. But there's also another element that makes this one stand out. Thanks to Gianluca Buccellati's production, it's a little more upbeat than some of her past singles, adding a jazzy bounce to the percussion to reflect the light at the end of the tunnel in her all-too timely story of isolation.

Speaking on the video, created with filmmaker Molly Burdett, Arlo explained: "This video to me is a warm, vibrant exploration of friendship and introversion. I think there's something so powerful about the saturated, filmic textures, the human portraits and depictions of euphoria.

"The song surrounds isolation, being present in your pain and knowing that you're not the only one on the planet feeling low. I think especially in times like these it's important to focus on the inevitability that things will get better."

Collapsed In Sunbeams arrives tomorrow, January 29.
