Words: James Keith

Between SoundCloud, YouTube, Mixcloud and everything else, it can feel like we’re being overwhelmed by an impenetrable, almost infinite stream of music, often of varying quality. You need a soundtrack to start your weekend right, but you don’t have the requisite lifetime to trawl through the week’s new DJ mixes. To help you out, we’ve done the busy work for you. We’ll be running this series every single Friday of every single week to bring you the very finest house music, grime, techno, bashment, R&B, trap, D&B, Amapiano, and no doubt a bunch of stuff that doesn’t have a name yet.

Dive into TRENCH Radio’s best mixes of the month below.

💥💥💥

p-rallel for DJ Mag

Someone in the YouTube comments compared this mix to ‘80s era house music, a joyous era that didn’t confine itself so strictly to genre boundaries—and they’re not wrong. A deep and groovy mix of house and garage, it really does hit a lot of those marks, from the crisp hand claps, Gospel and soul piano licks, and the shuffling, funky bass, it’s all there, but never once drifts into throwback territory.

Champion B2B Royal-T for Outlander Magazine

After much teasing online, Champion and Royal-T put us out of our misery with the full upload of their B2B for Outlander Magazine. That big slab of low-end kicks things off for a session largely built from their own productions and dubplates, including a Champion & Sammy Virji’s “Hot In Here” VIP, a few gems from Notion and MPH, some Youngsta, and one of Champion and Sammy Virji’s other bangers, “Dis Badman” with Irah.

Timma T B2B Wiwson B2B Estevez for Reprezent

An hour of big, wobbly grime and dubstep skankers from Timma T and the boys this month. Non-stop one-upmanship from all three here, as all great B2Bs or B3Bs should be, but pay special attention to Timma T’s outrageous chopping. He’s been showing off his light-fingered manoeuvres a lot in recent Reprezent shows, but this month’s are something else.

IZCO for Mixmag

2026 is shaping up to be a big year for IZCO. His debut album, POWERSCROFT, dropped on Friday (May 1), and the timing couldn’t have been better. A sunny mix of breezy house, garage, jazz and broken beat, it hits the early summer tone beautifully. IZCO’s sound over the years has spanned a bag of different influences and both the new album and this new mix manage to pull all of those disparate influences together into one cohesive piece with precision. Both are purpose built for sun-bleached parks and barbecues.

Hiroko Yamamura for Elevator Music

Adding a touch of darkness to the fabric of Chicago house, Hiroko Yamamura’s influence soften sit on the fringes. Science fiction and anime are just as inspirational to her as the jacking house and techno she draws for her in her sets. Don’t mistake the darkness for moodiness, this is pure, late-night funk, heavy on the groove. One of the most consistent selectors in the game and a powerhouse in the Chicago house scene—and we do not say that lightly.

Equinox for Planet Wax

Widely considered one of the greatest jungle producers and selectors of all time, Equinox has been a paragon in the scene ever since he first started cranking out bangers on his humble Amiga 1200 and Akai S950 as a teen in the early ‘90s. He was there right from day dot and he’s stayed right on top thanks to his top-tier productions, DJ sets and the Scientific Wax label he founded with Paul Watson (another beacon for jungle heads). A frequent flyer at Planet Wax, this one in particular is a knuckle-whitener from start to finish.

Wilfy D for Apartmnt Life

A slow-burning run through Afro-house, UK funky and Amapiano fused with R&B and hip-hop slow jams. An absolute gem of a pre-party mix that feels like a humid summer afternoon. It’s a logical progression from Wilfy D who has always been deeply tuned into the US-UK meeting point at the foundation of UK garage and how house and R&B play into that. If you’re a fan of the tracks he’s been producing over the past few years, namely cuts like “IDKW” and this year’s “Dreamstate” with Katy B (both of which feature in this mix), this is right up your alley.

Capo Lee for alt:lab

Capo Lee has been stretching into the DJ world for a few years now, showcasing a deep and varied record bag. This time around he thought he’d try somehting a little different and MC while mixing. No mean feat, as he readily admits, but he could well have found his niche with this energetic cocktail of bars and Baile funk, garage, funky and house music.

Trends B2B Boylan with Crazy D for SWU.FM

One of the pioneers of MCing over dubstep, Crazy D doesn’t always get the credit he deserves. Between hosting duties with Hatcha on KISS FM and regular spots at FWD>>, Crazy D’s voice is deeply embedded into the fabric of dubstep. This month he joined Trends and Boylan for a 60-minute sprint that spanned the full breadth, from dark and moody rollers to bright and breezy skankers.

BIanca Oblivion for NTS Radio

Ahead of their recent B2B for Hoe_mies at Berlin’s Oxi Club, Bianca Oblivion and Meg10 turned in this high-energy primer of club weaponry. Eclectic as ever, this one boasts gems from King Doudou, Jialing, a Mala edit of ESDEEKID’s “4RAWS”, TSVI, and a juiced up, drum-heavy take on Benga and Coki’s “Night” by 1OO1O. If you weren’t lucky enough to catch the pair in Berlin this month, this will go some way to soothing the FOMO.
