Between SoundCloud, YouTube, Mixcloud and everything else, it can feel like we’re being overwhelmed by an impenetrable, almost infinite stream of music, often of varying quality. You need a soundtrack to start your weekend right, but you don’t have the requisite lifetime to trawl through the week’s new DJ mixes. To help you out, we’ve done the busy work for you. We’ll be running this series every single Friday of every single week to bring you the very finest house music, grime, techno, bashment, R&B, trap, D&B, Amapiano, and no doubt a bunch of stuff that doesn’t have a name yet.
Dive into TRENCH Radio’s best mixes of the month below.
💥💥💥
Main Phase for Resident Advisor
A surprise turn here from Main Phase. People expecting wall-to-wall speed garage slappers might be a little disappointed, but this one rewards patience. Opening with dub techno, this RA mix is as expansive as it is eclectic, slipping seamleslsy between bass-heavy house groovers, weighty perc trax, a hint of sino grime, some marching techno, Latin house, techno, but yes, there are still a few speed garage sluggers from the ATW boss.
Ila Brugal for NTS Radio
Ever reliable in the field of city-levelling low-end, Ila Brugal turned in a hour of bass-heavy thunder. This month’s show featured a good chunk of her own productions as well as gems from Mia Koden, Alix Perez, 2562, Mantra, Commodo Kami-O and more. It’s largely dubstep-oriented show, but within that she also mixes with plenty of moodiness and moments of stunning soulful moments. Listen out for some unreleased and upcoming gems from the Amygdala boss.
Simms for Balamii
A deadly set from Simms this month ahead of his recent single, “Orbit”, which just dropped. Known for his deep knowledge of classic jungle and the hardcore intersection, Simms is gradually getting the respect he deserves, but for our money, it’s not happening fast enough. 2026 has started strong for the London DJ and producer with an early January session for Kindred and a “chilled jungle” mix for Charlie Tee’s Radio 1 show. Here he is, going full tilt with a jungle/hardcore power-hour on Balamii.
Napes for Kool FM
Since emerging in 2019 with a series of free downloads eagerly hoovered up by D&B heads, London-based, Bristol-honed Napes has been steadily building an impressive catalogue of D&B and jungle hybrids splashed with grime. On Friday, he fired off the one-two punch of “Hit The Corner / Clamber”, his first release in nearly a year, a timely chaser to his recent appearance at Hootananny Brixton. Sharing the bill with Tim Reaper, Silva Snipa, Jolie P, and OS:MAN, it was a stacked line-up, but Napes minimalist sections and grimey, 140 funk stole the show.
Lolingo for Reprezent
Since striking gold over a decade ago with the legendary flip of Amerie’s “1 Thing” for Elf Kid’s “Golden Boy”, Lolingo’s powers as a DJ and producer have only grown (he’s also since added animator to his list of talents). A stack of releases on his Bandcamp will attest to the former, and this recent Skeen show on Reprezent will prove the latter. Two straight hours of skippy R&G, midrange sluggers and low-end rattlers.
Selectacee & Betsy Mae w/ Jolie P
London-based FLINTAQ (Female, Lesbian, Intersex, Nonbinary, Trans, Agender and Queer) crew, Sexy Lady Massive have had an explosive year, racking up Ones To Watch listings and top tier bookings all over the country. This one’s a slightly emotional one as Jolie makes her swansong appearance as the crew’s MC. This is by no means a downer, though, instead Selectacee and Betsy Mae see their friend off with a heart-racing set of heart-racing hard house, techy power-slammers, hardcore, breaks, jungle, classic nosebleed rave, and more. Buckle up.
Slimzee w/ Fugzi & Razor for Team Rocket
After taking a bit of a break from the airwaves, Slimzee returned in January with a new weekly show and a new station, E3 Radio. Billed as a return to the pirate radio, DIY rawness with “all-you-can-eat dubplate buffets week in, week out”, it’s a welcome return from one of the forefathers of grime. To celebrate, he was in East London venue Basing House for a session with the Team Rocket lot. A mix of grime, dubstep, bass and breaks from Slimzee with Razor and Team Rocket resident MC Fugzi on the mic. Non-stop heaviness from beginning to end.
Freeza Chin B2B MoreNight w/ Logan, Kruz Leone & Manga Saint Hilare for BBC 1Xtra
It’s been a big month for the Bare Selection family. At the top of the month, they released “Fold”, a huge collab between Logan OLM, Freeza Chin and MoreNight, and the party’s still rolling on. Bare Selection co-founder Jayemkayem was on deck at Planet Wax earlier this month, then last week Freeza and MoreNight connected with Logan, Manga and Kruz Leone for this half-hour session to celebrate the single release. DJs/producers and MCs alike are all at the top of the game here, with instrumentals coming almost exclusively from MoreNight, Freeza Chin and Jayemkayem.
DJ Flight’s 6 Mix for BBC 6Music
A master at work. D&B/jungle icon, DJ Flight has been at the forefront from the get-go. Between her label play:musik, the EQ50 project (co-founded with Sweetpea, Storm and Mantra), the legendary Next Chapter show she hosted on 1Xtra, and of course her Flight:Mode show on Kool FM, DJFlight has been a legend in the game for nearly 30 years. Here she spins a power hour of D&B greats from across the years, including Dillinja and Lemon D, Double O, DJ Sofa, Kuttin Edge and more.
Ghost Phone for SWU FM
Bristol-based club entity Ghost Phone turned in another hour of deep grooves and moody melodies this month. Sean and Dan Kelly has been finding ways to fuse R&B and dancehall with techno and club music. For this show, Kelly focused on 160-oriented flavours like jungle, footwork and ghettotech and offsetting them with deep, late-night melodies. The results bring out surprising moments on both sides without ever becoming jarring.
