Between SoundCloud, YouTube, Mixcloud and everything else, it can feel like we’re being overwhelmed by an impenetrable, almost infinite stream of music, often of varying quality. You need a soundtrack to start your weekend right, but you don’t have the requisite lifetime to trawl through the week’s new DJ mixes. To help you out, we’ve done the busy work for you. We’ll be running this series every single Friday of every single week to bring you the very finest house music, grime, techno, bashment, R&B, trap, D&B, Amapiano, and no doubt a bunch of stuff that doesn’t have a name yet.

This past week has been dominated by the news that Thomas Bangalter of Daft Punk had made a long overdue on-deck appearance, going B2B with Fred Again.. during Busy P (aka Ed Banger label head Pedro Winter) and Erol Alkan’s set for the 20th anniversary of Because Music. Bangalter is illusive personified, rarely appearing or performing live. This set with Fred was his first in 16 years (!) and the first time Bangalter had DJ’d without his iconic helmet in 24 years. Historic doesn’t even cover it. Listen while you still can.

Skepta and DJ Maximum hosted a special event this month to spotlight some fresh talent and familiar faces as part of the ‘Advice Of An Icon’ event with Timberland. Joining them were Finessekid, who performed his recent joint, “Sirens From Ireland”, with Skepta, as well as Jayahadadream who had some fresh cuts from her recent tape, Happiness From Agony, to share with the crowd. In addition to Novelist, Big Zuu, Ms Banks, Kibo, Paul Stephan, Shorty, and DC3, the event also included an appearance from competition winner Havier Mendoza who performed his track, “Brim”, which was produced by Novelist and M1OnTheBeat.

An absolute masterclass from the queen of jungle and D&B here. Joined by Blackeye MC for the KH Freeform Weekender, the Metalheadz legend gave the crowd a skelter run through pretty much the full spectrum of D&B and jungle. From darkside to ragga jungle and everywhere in between, including some meaty bangers from DJ Die, CLIPZ and Jorja Smith, Mad Vibes, and more.

Denham Audio’s LMajor was on deck with an absolute screamer of mix as part of a DEXT Recordings showcase. Featuring punishing jams from J Majik, dBridge, Total Science, and plenty of his owne productions, including his “Last One”, one of the gems from his recent Trying EP with former Ulterior Motive producer Settle Down on Repertoire.

Taiki Nulight’s been on fine form since he started his Rinse FM residency this year. It’s been a great run so far, gathering speed ahead of his forthcoming Cheeky Bugger Tour across North America early next year. For his latest session, he drew for a tightly wound combo of 2-step, garage and dubstep, with a heavy emphasis on the latter, from Main Phase, Bakey, Dismantle and more.

As the first to sign to the Warehouse Projects’ new label, the release of Bakey’s debut album, Tribute, is a big occasion. Across nine tracks, Bakey pens an emotional and energetic tribute to 2010s dance music, pirate radio, soundsystem culture, and sweaty raves. To celebrate, he’s put together this mix that echoes a lot of the vibe of the album through choice picks from his record bag and some unreleased sluggers that didn’t quite make the cut. From atmospheric techno to low-slung rollage, gloomy 2-step and garage groovers, this is Bakey in a nutshell.

Wrapping up a packed summer schedule that included a power-hour at Rinse’s Summer Terrace Party, Ibiza bookings, and closing the Lonely Hearts Club stage at this year’s Glastonbury, Lady Shaka turned in a stellar set for this year’s All Points East. Dust storm be damned, Shaka turned in a tight 50 minutes of Baile fink, Jersey Club, jungle, breakbeat, kuduro, speed garage and more.

It’s been just over a year since Sooyeon—the DJ and producer formerly known as Oh Annie Oh—released her debut EP under her name, Block N Delete, and a string of subsequent releases, including recent jewel “In The Club, We Are All Disassociating”, have built up some serious momentum. That brings us up to her recent tour of Asia where Sooyeon hit up Bangkok Community Radio in Thailand for this belter of a set that features several of her own creations, including the soon-to-be-released “From There For Now”, which is due to land next month.

Earlier this month, MPH released his new album, Substance. The perfect calling card for everything MPH is about, the 13-tracker races through meaty garage and 2-step with moments of wobbly 4x4 and house infusions. Before heading out on the tour, MPH was in the Kindred shopfront this month with a whipsmart set to get things cracking. A bunch of album highights are included in this one, mixed in with fan favourites from across the years.

Rupture co-founder Double O stepped into the RA greenhouse this month for something a little outside of his usual wheelhouse. Swapping jungle breaks for 4x4 stompers, the D&B vet went all in on an exclusively vinyl hour of robotic funk and soulful bangers from the house and techno heartlands of Detroit and Chicago.
