Between SoundCloud, YouTube, Mixcloud and everything else, it can feel like we’re being overwhelmed by an impenetrable, almost infinite stream of music, often of varying quality. You need a soundtrack to start your weekend right, but you don’t have the requisite lifetime to trawl through the week’s new DJ mixes. To help you out, we’ve done the busy work for you. We’ll be running this series every single Friday of every single week to bring you the very finest house music, grime, techno, bashment, R&B, trap, D&B, Amapiano, and no doubt a bunch of stuff that doesn’t have a name yet.

This month, Resident Advisor celebrated a momentous landmark: 1000 mixes. To make it a special one, they pulled out all the big guns, commissioning a whole raft of mixes, including Tim Reaper, Bicep, and even a posthumous Andrew Weatherall B2B with DJ Harvey from the archives. Also in this treasure trove was this mega, three-hour session from Jyoty. Around the time this mix was released, Jyoty had taken to social media to explain that this would likely be her last for a little while as she took time to recalibrate and reconsider the consumption of long-form music and how best to deliver it without it becoming wallpaper music. So, for now, enjoy this temporary swan song.

The annual Rinse FM summer roof party was in full swing this month. JD. Reid was on deck a few weeks ago with this warming run through his record bag. Similar to his recent George Riley collaboration, “Outside”, this new mix taps into that warm, late-summer energy perfectly, with lots of low-slung funk and groove from DJ Technics, DJ Swisha, DJ Lag, Roska, and more—including the welcome return of a once-ubiquitous Julio Bashmore anthem.

Sydney-born, Brooklyn-based Brux was the latest to drop a mix for Gudu Records lot. True to her DJ sets and certainly a lot of her recent produtions, this one delivered a combo of breaks, bass and earworm vocal hooks that sits neatly between pop and club music. It’s fast-moving, zipping between tracks at a hell of a rate. Listen out for gems from Big Dope P and TT The Artist, Jialing, Nikki Nair, and a few gems lifted from Brux’s recent CA$HED UP EP on LuckyMe as well as some unreleased sizzlers.

This month, seminal dubstep outfit Tempa took over Kindred for a massive session featuring legends old and new. Alongside Ila Brugal, K Lone, Bluetoof and others, the king of dubplates, Riz La Teef, and one of the greatest MCs to ever do it in dubstep, Sgt. Pokes took to the decks for an all-vinyl set. Wall-to-wall golden era dubstep abounds in this one, including prime-time wobblers from J:Kenzo, Cyrus, RSD, D1, several era-defining anthems from Coki, and many more.

In terms of straight-up DJ sets, the new-ish Balamii Booth series has been an absolute goldmine. Silva Snipa’s set remains an all-time great, and this month we got another contender for that title from LA-hailing selector Anastazja. Prioritising warmth and energy, this one takes in everything from old-school hip-hop party-starters to classic house groovers via Afro-Latin and global club sounds.

Another year, another hedonistic Boomtown under our belts. As ever, there was a tonne of sets to choose from (K-Motionz and Halogenix both delivered absolute stormers that you can find on YouTube), but it was this one from Commodo that we wanted to highlight. A masterful hour of the kind of snarling, grimey dubstep that gave plenty of moody atmospherics with enough kick to keep everyone’s feet moving.

One of the busiest DJs working today, Introspekt released her debut album, Moving The Center, on Tempa over the summer, and we’ve been spoiled with mixes ever since. For this one, we go back to May this year for a set recorded live in the Farringdon club. Just as the LP marries classic dubstep tropes with a modern club temperament, this mix looks to the early 2000s, FWD era of dubstep and ties that history to the modern iteration of the sound.

Five years in the making, Raji Rags went B2B with Provhat, founder of Daytimers and co-founder of Dialled In this month. A broad and comprehensive cross secion of what both DJ/producers are about, this one sweeps through breaks, percussive trax, D&B, some Nina Simone, JID, Dead Prez, Kendrick and plenty more in between.

The Mean Streets Show made its grand return this month. Hitting the ground running with their new show, they brought the whole team in for this one, including Grandmixxer, Mez, Dexplicit, P Jam, Trends, Doni Rampage, D.O.K., and Sir Spyro, who was the focus of the producer spotlight segment. A mix of Mean Streets and Lean Streets selections, and newness from the wider family.

For the past year, Manga Saint Hilare has been proving his mettle as a selector with a regular run of grime DJ sets, but this month, in addition to a grime mix, he also uploaded this jungle mix. Hopefully the first of more, the new session cuts right to the quick with wall-to-wall breaks. There’s plenty of variation, though, as he stirs in R&B vocals and edits, ravey ambience, some Shabba Ranks, and tonnes of melody between the sirens and low-end blasts.
