You need a soundtrack to start your weekend right, but you don’t have the requisite lifetime to trawl through the week’s new DJ mixes. To help you out, we’ve done the busy work for you. We’ll be running this series every single Friday of every single week to bring you the very finest house music, grime, techno, bashment, R&B, trap, D&B, Amapiano, and no doubt a bunch of stuff that doesn’t have a name yet.

Tonight, July 26, Manchester-hailing Tarzsa will join fellow NTS resident Motive for a big night with LN-CC, Diesel, and The L8te down in East London. Ahead of that, LN-CC called on Tarzsa for a DJ mix to whet everyone’s appetite. Brimming with all the soulful, jazzy elements that steer every Tarzsa set, this one gets pretty out there at times with lots of Moog noodling and spoken word meditations, but it’s still packed with funk and plenty of groove to keep you on the dancefloor.

Grime, techno, dubstep and bassline were the backbone of Tailor Jae’s team-up with Unbound boss DJ Winggold’s on Rinse this month. Featuring new-school takes on old favourites like Benga and Coki’s “Night” and Jook’s “Pulse J VIP”, it was a high-intensity hour from two of the most exciting multi-genre selectors in the game right now.

The UK’s influence on San Francisco-based selector Banksia is undeniable. It made itself heard on his recent EP, Tala, where he blends the sounds of his upbringing in Zambia with his experiences in clubs like The Warehouse Project, fabric, Corsica, Phonox and the rest. And it continues to make its presence felt in his record bag and radio shows, like this recent session for Radio Raheem Milano where he takes an energetic deep-dive into breaks, electro and techno.

Giulia Tess returned as one of NTS’s new residents for the second of her monthly shows this month. Flanked by her entourage, GT tapped into the country’s current (and no doubt fleeting) spate of sunny weather. Spanning older rave classics right through to brand-new picks from the likes of Finn and a whole bunch in-between, we get colourful house, disco, hip-house, breaks and anything 4x4 that puts a smile on your face.

The Lot Radio family were down at the Museum of Modern Art in New York for the annual takeover at the Manhattan gallery. As usual, they brought down some of their regular residents and Jubilee’s set stole the show. Stepping slightly outside of her usual wheelhouse, this set was wildly eclectic but massively fun and danceable from start to finish.

Now fully in the swing of her Foundation FM residency, Introspekt’s latest show proved to be one of her best. Sticking largely to the 2-step/dubstep genre, particularly that amorphous crossover era when dubstep was beginning to emerge. Taking us deep into those early 2000s, she served up a power-hour of picks from all the greats, past and present, including Plastician (from the Plasticman days), Benny Ill, DJ Hatcha, Artwork, Geeneus, and more.

Jack Dat’s turned in some of his best shows to date so far this year. Recent sets with Duppy, Datkid, Crafty 893, Namesbliss and others have all been stellar, but this month’s with Armor, Stretch, Keeya Keys, Melvillous, Jammz and Eklipse quite possibly trumps them all. Moored in grime, garage and rap, the six MCs show peerless range, switching between tempos and genres without putting a foot wrong. And credit to Jack Dat’s record collection, which seems to get broader and deeper by the day.

One of the architects of the purple dubstep sound that brought funk and psychedelia to the spartan low-end template, he was a pivotal force that kept dubstep exciting in those golden days, but lately Joker’s been relatively quiet on the release front. Behind the scenes, however, he’s been arguably even more prolific with credits as mastering engineer on records by Joel Culpepper, Sir Spyro, Skrillex, Commodo and many more. Recently, he stepped back into the spotlight with this standout set for Boiler Room’s stage at Primavera Sound. Listen out for gems from Mala, Hamdi and a bunch of his own classics.

Charisma celebrated three years of his Reprezent show with a special session this month. Champion also joined him in the second hour for a special B2B session and Jamakabi stepped in for mic duties. A mix of funky, garage and grime crackers old and new, a good chunk of unreleased dubs), and some forthcoming heat that he’s been cooking up himself.

Sam Binga, Bianca Oblivion, and Bakey were at Love Saves The Day this summer. To counter the grey skies and drizzle, they offered a 90-minute tonic of bouncy, bassy rump-shakers. Bianca and Binga have been working together for a few years now, on deck and in the studio, and whatever it is about the Bristol/LA connection, it’s a pairing that works well—and Bakey slots into their partnership perfectly.
